Hi,

I am running Windows on Parallels on Mac.

I need to have another PC see my shared folder on the Mac's Windows, but have no idea how to set it up.

What is happening :
I go on the laptop (Windows), and click start, run, and type in the name of my Mac, but the laptop cannot find it. Which makes me think the Windows on the Mac is not sharing? Or something similar.

Please help.

Thx

i am more familiar with vm fusion, but i guess the principle is the same.
how is your parallels accessing the network? NAt? bridged? etc?
does ur parallels windows version have an ip address?
can u ping this address from your windows laptop?
also when going start-run etc its easier to use ip addresses than hostnames...

Hi,

Unable to ping.

Accessing with NAt.

There is a Parralels Host-Guest and a NAt.

The Windows laptop keeps timing out. Please help. I really need to get his working!

can the mac connect to the laptop? if so then u know its a parralels windows problem,
try enabling windows file sharing on the mac,
udner sharing, advanced i think? u need to tick the smb share and tick the account u want to share from

have u also tried disabling the windows file wall on the parallels and laptop side?
Or AV firewall?

Thx,

Went under system preferences, sharing, ticked file sharing, added the folder that needs to be shared, clicked advanced, ticked smb.

Still wont ping. Not sure which to ping, as there is NAt and Guest-Host. Tried both, no luck.

can u at least ping the mac ip address? as in shut down the parallels completely and ping the mac? can the mac ping the windows laptop?

Ok, not sure if I am doing this right? Do I ping the ip address on the Airport? If so, no it doesnt work either

How do I ping from the Mac?

Sorry for the noob questions, that is exactly what I am.

Ok, there was a typo. If I ping the Airport IP address from the laptop, it works fine

change ur parallels to be directly connected. then check the ip address of the windows parallels side.
start->run type cmd <enter>
then type ipconfig
check your ipaddress

from the mac u can use network utility under utilites, or go to terminal also under utilities and type ping xxxx/xxxx.xxx.xxxx

Ok, so I now open Parallels again and do the above in Windows on Parallels?

Leto from Parallels here,
I was going to post a huge response, but it looks like you're in good hands with these guys; they know what they're doing. Once you get bridged mode working in Parallels, the network will be able to see the Windows machine as a separate machine.

EDIT: If you do need further help, e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll forward you.

Ok, so I have changed the emulation to bridged ethernet, using default adapter and tried wifi. If I change it to that and try and ping from the laptop i get 'destination host unreachable'.

What else can I try?

what ip address and subnet do you have on the parallels windows side.
what ip and subnet is on your windows laptop?
