Parental warning - Real Player porn glitch

The free Real player SP has a glitch in the file conversion module. While I was trying to convert an AVI to another format (for PC - Windows media player, with mp3 audio), Realplayer's converter reported that I needed the DivX / Xvid codec to do the conversion.

It gave me links to get the divx and xvid codecs, fortunately my kiddies weren't around - the xvid links to a porn site.

To convert .rm and .rmvb I use RMVB Converter. To convert other flies to .avi have a look at alltoavi and winavi.

lol you mean fortunately for you, your kids weren't around so that you wouldn't have been uncomfortable.

Your kids have probably seen porn already.

I don't see how you can imagine that exposing kids to porn is appropriate. If they have seen it already, I can assure you it's not by my choice or doing. If they have, does it mean I should allow it in the house? What does 'they have probably been exposed to it...' mean to you in that context? Please elaborate.

About feeling uncomfortable... do you think it's unusual... do you have children of your own (i.e. are you speaking from experience)? If you do have children of your own, does your wife share your sentiment?

This is not about pretending that sex does not exist blah blah blah... but please tell me you think adult pornography is inappropriate for kids and you would not willfully expose children to it? If you disagree, please spell out your own philosphy and why you think it appropriate for kids to watch porn...

Sneaky. And we all knows what happens when you go to very dodgy porn sites - you get all sorts of fun viruses, trojans and worms.

When I first tried to access this thread, URL Filter blocked access. Must've been the "porn" in the title, lol :D

ROFL! At first I referred to the offending link in the thread then decided it may have that effect so took it out.

Eish dude, take a chill pill.

All he said was fortunately they were not around & that they have probably been exposed to it already. Since the ages of your kids are 10 - 21, I can assure you that the 21 year old has definitely been exposed to some sort of porn. I don't recall him saying it was okay to expose kids to adult porn either. Even if you don't have kids, you can imagine that it must be uncomfortable if your kids are around you & a porn site pops up. Its not rocket science. ;)

ROFL, sounds like you are getting hot under the collar mate. How do you interpret my post as hostile? I asked some relevant questions. In case you didn't understand what he said, here it is again:

Your kids have probably seen porn already.
That's not quite

It's more like it's OK (i.e. no big deal) for kids to be exposed to porn, its not new... or I'm the one who benefited from their not being around. You said

Which is the point I made... how is that not contrary to the point made by Mike?

Thats all he said!
Where do you get the above from? Where in his post did he say its ok?
By implying that it wasn't fortunate that my kids weren't around because they would have been exposed to porn but rather that it was fortunate for me because I would have been uncomfortable.
Perhaps I did read too much into the statement... perhaps he wasn't saying that I shouldn't have been uncomfortable... if so, apologies for misreading, but either way, Mike can answer my post if he differs... and either way it's not like I'm upset with the guy, I was debating a point or asking him to clarify.

Let's leave it to Mike to clarify what he meant?

Maybe not the 10year old, but the 21year old have definitely seen porn, and by choice ;) (still, I agree that does not make it acceptable for family viewing)
Right, so long as you don't interpret concern for your kids to mean ignorance, I agree. And yes, I do wish :p

As a parent, there are some things you prefer not to know. But I don't advocate ignorance. We all know what the curious mind is about since we were all there. Some just haven't quite got over that curiosity. Of course I do hope my kids stay virgins till they marry at 23 years old or whatever, aiming high shouldn't be frowned upon IMO. :)

That's the problem with these debates - concern sometimes gets interpreted incorrectly. What started out as a post to warn parents (I mean at least you can be informed that clicking a link delivered by Real Player will take you to a porn site)... ends up a debate about morals...

If anyone feels it's no big deal then feel free to move along.

Does the avi file you were trying to convert play normally? There are some dodgy avi's that direct you to funny sites etc. (usually has a "codec" to download that's a virus or something)

You sure you don't have malware on your PC?
