park and sell places

Hi Guys,

so anywhay while waiting for buyers on OLX, I got called by this park and sell place;

anythings I should look out for? any pitfalls?

said to me they will sell at no cost to me, I just have to give them my car for 14 days,
and the car stays in my name until a solid offer comes through,

worth anything?
 
Sounds dodgy if it's an if it's not a reputable place ... 2 weeks down the line your car could be left standing on bricks or stolen and they could say it's not their responsibility that the car was broken into.
 
If you're going to do something like this, its better to go and chat to a smaller dealer and see if they'll do a consignment sale for Rx amount.
 
Avoid. They got hold of you via your Gumtree or OLX add. Thats what they do. Look for latest ads and try their luck. They park your car on their floor with an inflated sticker price. And basically hope it sells. I placed an ad online for my last car I was selling and got 2 calls from these types of places. First question I asked them concerned insurance. The first outfit couldn't confirm what would happen if my car was written off during a test drive. The second confirmed I was covered - and then went on to explain that I would need to pre-pay for an advert they were going to place on my behalf.

I would avoid. Plus Carte Blance did an expose a while ago about a dealership that was doing this. The sellers were waiting months and months for their cash. Some of them ended up getting shafted.

You're in the East Rand. There are public park and sell areas. Iv'e used them twice and sold both previous cars on the same day. Outside Builders Warehouse in Boksburg is where I sold my last car (on the same day I parked it). Make sure shes clean. Get there early on a Saturday. Park her and leave her with contact details in the window. Come back at 15H30 and take her to safety. That road is hella busy and gets loads of traffic. Helped a friend move her Honda Civic recently as well. But parked her car outside the McDonalds in Birchleigh. Same set-up. Get there early and park her. Fetch her before sundown. Her car sold a week after she parked it there - to somebody that saw it there.

concur with the one in Birchleigh.

I love around the corner from there and because I wonder if these things work or not I made notes on what was there for a month.

there was only one car there twice in the same month, a really bad looking Golf. was old dented and not a good buy.
but it was only there for two weeks.

now I cant say all those cars were sold, but I see no logic in not bringing the car back a week later if it did not sell. costs you nothing...

hmm something to think about,

still not sold, got a few offers for 45K, but the magic number is 50K for me.......

good I checked with everybody here first, avoided a nasty shocker

one other thing, anybody know a good car rental deal for a month at least?

autofair has been operating in menlyn for a long time, so rather go with something like that.

but just take the 45k and run

With all the issues you had/have I would disagree. Will you pay 50k for it knowing what you know? I sure as hell won't.

Also don't confuse advertised prices with actual sold for prices. And if that were the going rate yours would have been sold a long time ago. It can be one of 2 things. Either your price is out. Or what you trying to sell is a pos. It's as simple as that really. As that price range of cars would be fairly fast moving I would think.
 
I sold 3 cars at those "park and sell" places, in various towns in the past with great success. They generally add a R1,000 to R2,000 to what you want and pocket their share when the car sells. Look for one in a busy area otherwise you'll wait ages for the car to sell.
