On Saturday April 1st 2017 the 100th South African parkrun will start. No this is not a April First Joke.

Bronberrik parkrun launch
This Saturday we are starting the Scottish-sounding Bronberrik parkrun in Centurion. Derek and Margaret Blount used to volunteer at the greatly missed Voortrekker Monument parkrun but have worked so hard to get Bronberrik parkrun started. Last weekend a dress rehearsal run confirmed that it is going to be a popular addition to the parkrun family. Bronberrik parkrun is going to star in a television programme. Dan Nicholl, host of the television show The Dan Nicholl Show, (Wednesdays 19:00 Supersport 1) will be there to film and entertain us. He will be racing two fellow comedians, Chris Forrest and Jason Goliath, over the testing 5km route. It should be fun to watch as the threesome are not athletes who will threaten the front runners. When I checked to see if they were still attending Dan replied, “We are indeed coming Bruce, training has been intense, anticipation is building, we will be a blur of measured speed and we have a collective determination to break the one hour barrier! See you on Saturday and can you please book us three spots on the front line at the start.”
On Saturday 8th April, parkrun launches in Namibia, (Time to get fit Montymoose)
parkrun comes to Namibia
The following Saturday (8th April) we will break another parkrun barrier when we launch our first parkrun outside South Africa. Swakopmund parkrun in Namibia has been in our plans for a long time now and will be the harbinger of our determination to gradually bring parkrun to the SADEC countries and, who knows, one day further into Africa. For the immediate future the Namibian parkruns will form a separate region within South Africa but one day, when there are several parkruns in that country it will establish its own identity. Dave Hammond, Kirsty Brits and Buttons Heyns designed a fast flat route which starts outside the astonishing Dome sporting complex. The run then continues alongside the Atlantic Ocean and along paths bisecting the beach. I have no doubt that Swakopmund parkrun will make a positive difference to the lives of the Swakopmund folk and will prove to be popular with locals and visitors alike.
