Pretoria - A father who used his 11-year-old son to break into a neighbour's flat in the Moot in Pretoria, has been arrested with the youngster. The 46-year-old father lives next to the block of flats with his family.
Captain Jan Legoabe said the father apparently helped the boy climb over the fence of the block of flats on Friday.
"The boy gained entrance through the roof of the flat and he and his father stole a TV set, a DVD player and a video machine," said Legoabe.
Police were later tipped off that the father and son had sold the goods at a pawn shop in the area.
Record of all clients
Legoabe said: "The investigating officer took the serial numbers the victims had given him to the pawn shop and compared them with those on the items the father and son had sold. They were the same."
Legoabe said the owner of the pawn shop kept a record of every client's personal information and could provide the police with the suspect's name and identity number.
"The police attached the goods and arrested the father and son.
"The son was released into his mother's care a few hours later, but the father remains in custody and is due to appear in court soon."
