Party like it’s 1995

Slack developer Felix Rieseberg has released an app which lets users run Window 95 on their macOS, Windows, and Linux PCs.

Available on GitHub, the app’s source code and installers are free to download – with the app featuring the likes of Wordpad, phone dialer, MS Paint, and Minesweeper.

Hmm, I tend to run things in a specialized emulator instead of a VM because most VMs lack 3D support and drivers for Windows 9x, I am not sure if this is a Emulator, a VM or some sort of a port.

PCEm is probably the best one so far if you have a fast enough system it will emulate a Pentium 200mhz with 512mb of ram, S3 video card and a Voodoo 1/2 3D accelerator, as a result the games run great and its a fairly good experience but you need a lot of grunt to run it as its not VM, for example my heavily overclocked 4th gen i5 barely does it.

I am a bit confused how they got a licence for windows 95 as its still copywriten and I know Microsoft doesnt want to give it up anytime soon.
