Hi All

I need some info getting a passport, do any of you know were i can get it relatively cheap and without me doing all the runing (sp) around. i don't have time to go to home affairs and want to get my passport ASAP

thank in advance

As far as I know you need to go in person unless you can detach both hands and send them with the courier to use when they fingerprint you.

That said it's not too much of a mission. 1 form, 1 payment, finger prints, check online for when it's ready. Mine took 90 minutes at home affairs and arrived 10 days after I applied. I'd suggest finding a home affairs office that is not too busy. Maybe one in a small suburb close that a bit of a drive for you but isn't too busy.

even for a temp password u have to go to home afairs. but rest assured, the passport queue is a lot smaller than the id doc queue

you will still have to queue for fingerprints though ( and it is for that reason that you have to go in person )

what encryption do they use there? :D

back to thread...

check the local community newspapers... you do get agents that do passport and ID applications.

i applied for mine last week friday, went into home affairs @ 16h00, took me 20-30mins ...

really quick

Hi,

If you're in the Johannesburg area use a place called Passport 2000. They go fetch the Passport for you and all that. I just had to go in for the fingerprints.

011 452 2296 or 011 452 4645

111 van Riebeeck Ave
Edenvale
1610

Hope this helps :)

It's not as bad as everybody makes out. At least at the Joburg CBD branch. Just go and stand in the queue... you shouldn't have to wait more than an hour. I have not had to do that in years. More like 20 mins. Make sure you take two photocopies of everything as well.

Hey thanks :) I was just googling on how to get a passport now and I found this :D

1 Q...Do you have to go and fetch it or do they post it to you? Glad to see it only takes 10 days or so coz I will need one in the next few months :)

do yourself a favour and hit home-affairs on a Saturday (get there at 7:45 - they open at 8am) - hardly any queues. did passport and id-book in 30 minutes.

Reason why I ask if they post it is because I think I remember them posting my ID Book. According to home affairs I still live in Durban even though I posted them my change of address tab from my ID book. So just want to be 100% sure whether or not you fetch your passport when it's ready or if they post it.

You can ask to have it posted, but it is not recommended! it WILL be stolen.

Yes, they are open Saturdays until midday. Good time to go.

they want 2 color photos(passport photos are strict, can't smile on the photo etc.). and you haveto pay them 190rand or so for the admin. Then it takes 6-12 weeks for the thing to be completed if there aren't any queeries. PS try applying in small towns coz they are alot faster.

Cheers

when i got mine, they said they are not going to post it as it is a security risk - is understandable.
