i used their online system and went to a bank they do everything there already for you.

I'm currently in my hometown, a really small town,don't think any of the banks here are equipped for ID and passport services

Just for your info, I have applied (renewed passport).

Nothing is required if your local home affairs can do smart card ID's. You can check on the DHA website for which offices can do smart cards.
They take the picture there and make you sign electronically. No forms need to be filled in.

Just take your old passport. The fee is R400.
If you don't take it, they think you lost it and then the fee is R800.

You can also do the online application then go to your local DHA office for your biometrics and payment if you haven't done an EFT.

It's R1200 if your previous travel document was a Maxi which costs R600.
