Passport renewal - urgent help needed

Hi guys

Friend of mine leaving for Mozambique next week Tue - submitted his SA passport renewal a week ago. Apparently there is no process any longer for an emergency issue...it has to go through the normal process.

Does anyone have a contact who can assist and help expedite?

Ouch. My wife applied for her passport from outside of the country - took 7 months.

Not really hey. They're better now, but thats cutting it way too close. Think I waited like 3 weeks last time.

I do know you can get a Moz Work Visa in <12 hours though - so once he has the passport then that would be reasonably fast (with the right letters).

Ouch. My wife applied for her passport from outside of the country - took 7 months.

Yup - made sure I had 10 years validity on mine before jumping on a plane due to this. Same for drivers.

Give the call centre a call and ask for an update. Where was it renewed from in Cape Town? Mine took 2 weeks when applied for from Paarl.

Takes 2 to 3 weeks now Home Affairs has a new system in place like SARS the only 2 govt. departments where you don't have to wait a month of Sundays.

Still stuck in Quality Control...leaving on Tue.

My passport took 8 days. I was quite impressed. I was not impressed by the long queues to apply and collect though.

I dont want to get your hopes up but I called and was also told it was at quality control and my passport was at Paarl the next day so it MIGHT be there by Tuesday morning.

Mine took 12 business days... So basically 3 weeks. Keep calling the Home Affairs hotline and tell them to escalate your passport as urgent. It most probably does nothing but try it anyway.
