Password Protect Windows Folder Shares

Under Tools - Folder Options - View (tab) - remove the tick from "Use simple file sharing".
You'll then be able to decide who can access what via the folders Sharing and/or Security preferences.
EDIT - I'd better warn you - I'm a mac user so there's probably a better way known to regular windozers.

That's a good start bwana v.X , it sets up the possibility of fine-grained access control. The other part of this is having the machine know users via their accounts; he then brings sharing and security options together with permissions and gets all anal

Do you want to give local users access, or network users?
If network users, you must ensure that there is an account on the local machine with identical credentials to the one that the network user logs in with (user name and PW must match). Remember that share access and permissions are not the same thing... share access refers to "seeing and accessing" the share name over the network... permissions refer to the things one can do with the objects within the share...

Yeah i have tried to setup the user on my local user accounts, get the user to access share once i have given them permission and still no luck, all users on the network can see the share but not access it, they can only access it with the everyone permision set, but hen that defeats the purpose!

There are some folder encryption programs, pity u can only get it for the trial period - don't think there's any free progs around
