Howzit All,

Have a client who wants to move their pastel Partner from on prem to a Cloud hosting platform.

Anyone have tips, tricks or best practices for how to access pastel for the users?

Is the best way still a VPN/MPLS or using RDS or remote apps?

AFAIK their cloud hosted stuff is through a web portal. I wasn't aware that their application can connect to it.

Or are you using "cloud" synonymous with "Hosted SQL Server somewhere online"?

I know their evolution product has a web interface that can connect to a hosted server through an app but i wanted to know if we could move their PAterl Partner to a hosted server and if anyone had a proven method for connection.

And the "Cloud" we are using is a simple hosted windows VM, not any PaaS.

Pastel Partner running that crappy pervasive engine? Nope. I wouldn't recommend hosting it online at all. I've had so many f$#@king headaches fixing the database because a network drop (even slightly) causes data corruption.

If I were to do what you're going to do, I'd host it on a VM, but then have people terminal into that machine to work on it there, and not access/have Pastel installed on their actual machines.

common practice is to host it on an RDS server.
You might want to ask Pastel for their whitepaper (which I may or may not have written) for more information.

Have done this for a few customers in our Datacenter and on RDS. Works well. Would not do it with MPLS or VPN.
