Hi guys need some advice or help

Friend of mine has Pastel running at home, on his "server"

He wants to now have his bookkeeper log into it remotely, to do work at home.
How would you recommend this be done?

He is running normal ADSL and its on the server at home.
Other machines are at his house on his network

I dont know if there is some way to do this and am hoping someone can advise?

Thanks

Install TeamViewer on both machines.

Remote control

Control computers remotely via the internet, as if you were sitting right in front of them. Whether you are providing spontaneous support, administering servers or working from your home office, TeamViewer lets you get the job done.

I was wondering about that but then how would you run it? You would actually just log in? It's too slow though.

Doesn't Pastel have some remote access options? It is basically a database and on a database you can allow users access from anywhere as long as they have a client to access the info on the other side.

I have however no idea how Pastel works but it would be silly not to have an option like this.

Depending on the server OS, install Comodo Unite, create a private network and get everyone on that netwerk. Basically a virtual network, but they can now remote in with remote desktop connection, without setting anything up on the router or ports, or establish connection to the Pastel database as Zoidberg suggested. This is what I do in my personal environment, business however have hardware VPN solutions. I hope this is layman enough...

He will also be able to see his bookkeeper on the network and record the logged on connections.

Install on both machines.
Create username and password on "target" machine, and leave TeamViewer running. Remote user starts TeamViewer and logon with username and password, and have full control of target machine. It should not be slow, its only screen images that are transferred.
Over an ADSL line it's almost just as fast as sitting behind the machine.

We use Logmein's Hamachi.. use teamviewer less... teamviewer is more like just seeing the screen and taking control.... using something like Hamachi you have remote desktop..and just works nicer with pastel remotely.. In the free version you have to make sure the Hamachi client is "open"...otherwise it wont work.. We have the smallest licence..and works very well in our situation..

Ja Hamachi would be the way to do it.

Set up a VPN, and install it on her home computer.

She then works on the home computer as a client, and it accesses the database on the remote computer via the Hamachi VPN.

Seamless.
