If you make your way to www.nowire.co.za and have a look at the MyWireless goodies section...

My question is, are those patch antenna's any good? Or are they rubbish?

If you have one of these patch antenna's, post what signal strength increase you got. Im sure there are either people who are really [:(!][:(!][:(!] or really [:D][:D][:D] with these antenna's.

Also if you think you have found the perfect patch antenna, let us know! Looks like sooner or later all Sentech users would like one, unless you camping on top of a tower! [:)]

Real success is finding your lifework in the work that you love

Well, I've got one and it's doubled my signal strength (that's 2% to 4% so don't dash out & buy one right now).

They are piss-poor build quality. The are stuck together with double-sided tape and a week in the window, in the sun, and the thing falls apart (I'm on my 3rd right now). Still, YMMV, and there are some guys using them to greater effect.

I'm talking directly to Poynting about a proper patch or grid antenna to get me a decent squignal, will let you know how that goes.

I'm one of those (few) people that are very happy with the patch antenna. It ain't the greatest quality, but it has allowed me to get a very good signal. I stay in an old house (steel-pressed ceilings, corrugated iron roof and burglar bars, so it is a perfect Farrady cage that blocks radio signals). Without the patch antenna, I am lucky if I can get a signal of max 8% (normally no signal / 2%). With the patch antenna - and depending on placement - I get a signal of between 15% and 22%. The antenna is currently in another room than my study, with a constant 20% signal coming in.

That said I have about ten pringles cans waiting to be used for cantennas (gotta love the wife's hoarding instinct!).

Hehe, at least the aliens cannot beam strange messages to me while I am in my study - not with all the signals bouncing off! [:D]

The only thing that the Pringles cans have done for me is add a kilo to my chubby frame [:)] Is the MyADSL affiliated with Weight Watchers in any way?

Maybe they should :-)

But the Patch Antenna, not great quality by any means, does offer a good gain permitted it's placed outside the building.

Still waiting for Clinton to see if he can get a better signal [V]
