Is there anyone who as claimed paternity leave in 2020 from UIF? If your employer does not contribute anything and you had to claim from UIF (is there perhaps someone that can share their experience), what is the maximum you can claim per day? The way I understand it, the maximum capped amount is R17702 per month, and you can claim 66% of this. So roughly you are able to claim R400 per day maximum? So consider you claim the allowed 10 days, you can claim R4000 for this (2 weeks)?

It's calculated on a flat rate of 66% of the contributable remuneration. So 66% of R17 702 is R11 683.32 (if you are looking at the maximum amount contributable).

Then divide by 4.33 for a weeks amount is R 2 698.23 per week. For 2 weeks it will be R2 698.23 x 2; which is
R5 396.45

Hi Flywheel.

Could you elaborate? My calculation is based on this statement:

"The UIF will pay those workers 66% of their salary up to the BCEA (Basic Conditions of Employment Act) earnings cap of R205,433.30 per annum"

To me it makes sense that the amount will be capped on the payout , I just would like to understand if my calculations are correct.

I also understand that the contribution amount has a threshold of R14 872. So should one therefore calculate 66% of this then?

My bad, I took for granted that your figure for the maximum threshold was R17 702.
I now see that it is indeed R14 872 per month capped.

The new amount for 2 weeks is now R 6 869.28 from the UIF (cap/4.33 *2) * 66%

Which is equal to R4 533.73
