So I was using Rain from 2017 to November 2019 and I had zero issues all along and recommended it to other people. Left the country and came November 2020 and the speeds I am getting as you can see from my screenshot are pathetic. I think EDGE offers better speeds. I am in Strand, Cape Town connected via a Huawei B618s-22d router that was working splendidly a year ago and is installed with the latest firmware. Is there something I am missing? I was getting better speeds last time but now I cant stream Netflix or Youtube and even opening Gmail is a chore. Has service degraded this badly for everyone or its just my isolated case? I thought I had my internet needs sorted but here I am looking at fibre options now because I honestly cant pay another month of this.

Things are pretty slow. Don't use the FAST test though, this is considered Netflix traffic and is throttled on the 4G packages. Use the Ookla speedtest or another.

So I used the Ookla app to test and nothing much has changed. The connection is so bad that the advert in the app could not even render:D:D

This is the story every single day for at least half the day.
Of course nobody ever bothers to get back with a solution.
Moving the router, rebooting and trying another device is not going to solve this.

All they can do is tell you to restart your router , move your router etc , meanwhile they sell more and more sims now even for phones so it will just get worse and worse cause they have NO interest in upgrading towers etc

Hey now that's not true at all. They are upgrading their towers and giving it to Vodascum.

This is just the way things are now. Telkom 3G is faster than rain's 4G for me. Rain's speed used to be amazing a year and a half ago (besides the random disconnects and waking up to no service).

PS rain has stopped connecting here at work completely even. Saw today that there's apparently a new tower here, but I guess it's still not ready yet.

@ rain rep: Don't bother asking me for my details. Been there, done that. Nothing accomplished and they said I was lying about my location.

Hi @WarriorWolf

I am looking into this for you , got you details already.

They should just rename their product to "unlimited off" since it is more fitting.

Customer: My router is on fire.
Rain: Have you setup the proper APN?
Customer: Yes, but the router is actually on fire.
Rain: Ok, you will have restart the router and try again.
Customer: Are you listening, there is flames coming out of the devices.
Rain: Try moving it to a window.
Customer: OMG, now our curtains caught fire and our house is burning down.
Rain: Look on the back of the router find the reset switch and reset your router, and try again.
*house burned down*

had a good laugh at that,
when it works, rain is okayish, but when you actually rely on it, its pain.

have it in the dual sim of my phone, sometimes it works brilliantly,
and sometimes its like pulling fingernails while watching threes company.

like in my case, it loses connectivity randomly, or has no signal at all,
move 2M away, works perfectly.

sticking with Rain due to no viable alternatives if you dont want to pay a fortune for data bundles.
or you dont have fibre,

When it not working most of the time it just not worth it. It's like having a vehicle but it has square wheels.

Same issues here (and I feal like everywhere else).

Most of the time I get sub 500kbps speeds with a max of maybe 1.8Mbps. That is, if I have connection at all which unfortunately I haven't had for the past few hours. Four months ago we were at least getting 3.5Mbps which was disappointing to start off with.

I am at the point of just cancelling and paying a bit more at a different service provider.
