Hi! I'll be living in Noordhek for 16 weeks and own a Blackberry Torch. Is there a sim card I can purchase that will give me voice and data for that limited time period? Thanks!

surely u can just obtain a prepaid sim and get the network to activate BIS

Will the networks in SA activate BIS on pay as you go? From looking at the MTN and Vodaphone websites, it doesn't appear so. I can't find pay as you go rates for data.

A blackberry without bis is pointless.

As far as i am aware all main networks, voda, mtn and cell c allow you to purchase bis on prepaid

Yup on vodacom you load the R59 and SMS a number to purchase it or following the *111# commands

Thanks! Does any network provide faster service than the others?

Make sure that you top up more than R59.00 prepaid airtime.

MTN:

Dial *141*11# and press the call button.

Vodacom:

Either SMS the word BlackBerry to 100 or,

Dial *111#
Choose option 2 , “Bundle Purchase“
Choose option 4, “BlackBerry Purchase“
Then choose between a monthly subscription or a once-off
Confirm the purchase

You will then receive an SMS confirmation.

Once you receive it, you may want to do a battery pull for a couple of minutes and then replace it.

Once you see EDGE or 3G signal all in caps BIS is activated.

This is a thirty day thing, so you will have to recharge eg from 15 to 15 of following month.

Rite now if im going by the flood of complaints each network is just as **** as the other. BIS 3G is slower than non-BIS gprs. 1 user reported it took 7 minutes to load a 24kb webpage.
