Good morning all you crazy people.
I took a really big Step over the last week.
I decided I was going to sell my Magic the Gathering Collection.
I remember a while ago there was a discussion on MTG not being a good investment. pfft, hear this story.
So I played Competitive MTG for 9 odd years. I had a decent collection of modern staples.
I spent maybe R32 000 over those 9 years buying cards, and more importantly trading cards to acquire the staples in the format Modern.
I stopped playing in early 2013.
Last week I approached the best place to sell the entire collection to in SA. the company is run by friends of mine, and I knew I would get a decent deal.
we spent quite a bit of time talking about it all, and they made me an offer. I know that offer would not be beaten in South Africa.
Unfortunately I knew I had to do a comparison to US sites. I looked around on the major resellers, and decided on a site that has a Downloadable Buy list.
I downloaded the CSV, filled in some cards. do not get me wrong I did not fill out everything I had, just everything I had in one box of unsorted rares. that is it. one box.
Total was 378 cards that I now need to ship to the states. because the offer they made me for that list is just shy of 3 times the offer I was made for the entire collection. but this is mostly due to the Exchange rate.(if I took the value in store credit it would have been almost a $1000 USD more btw)
So now I am going to have a nice amount of dollars sitting in my pay pal account.
now for the questions:
Withdrawing money from Pay pal, is it easier to do with FNB or with ABSA? I can link either card.
should I leave the money in pay pal in USD or move it over into my local account in one go?
Is there TAx that I need to look out for?
Additional Question, but more aimed at people familiar with MTG:
Should I have taken store credit, bought myself some Power, and then shipped the power to a friend in the states and have him sell it to a different store for Cash money that he would then transfer to me? or maybe even just buy 4 or 5 pieces of Power, ship them here, hold on to them for a year or two, when tey have gone up to over $1000 USD per card and the Rand has tanked more?
