I've previously done some sort of comparison for Sentech users.

It seems iBurst are among the most expensive when it comes to PPU. I'd recommend always opting out and using booster packages if you have to.
How do the rest of you feel about the PPU and how much it costs?

(its 95c Per MB which means its R 972.80 per Gig. Keep in mind they do offer top-up options which are far cheaper)

except you can get prepaid saix adsl for R70/gig. i left iburst when they basically decided to boost their prices on booster packages. before than it was very competitive with adsl. since then not. and yes i am onw of those people that couldn't standhaving to share 64kbps between downlaods and my general internet experience.

Yeah, ADSL is alot cheaper BUT we're talking about wireless broadband here. If you don't have a data package with Vodacom / MTN, what is the cost per MB?

There was a time when the cost per MB was R2 with Vodacom/MTN. :eek: I'm not sure what it is now, their site can probably tell you.

You should never consider using PPU on iBurst, you shouldn't really consider using the top ups either. Both are terribly priced. :(

Can't seem to find a price on normal packages but on data packages, out of bundle mb cost you between R1 and R2, and thats with a monthly subscription fee. I don't understand how iBurst can be worse at 0.90c a MB with no subscription fee?
 
afaik, but don't quote me. You pay between 1 and 2 rand on any cell ISP outside of a bundle or contract. (ie. pay as you go)... I know (at least with mtn) that if you purchase call time and convert it to a data bundle you pay as little as 80c a MB. But if you don't use it then it expires after the month is up. Like I said, I'm not 100% sure what the prices are but I think thats close enough. I know my vodacom 3g contract is about R 340 a month for my 1Gig of bandwidth, but I do get a free laptop :D (Which is what I was after).
 
No worries. When I applied for migration to the 3Gig package, iBurst phoned me to double-check if I wanted the PPU option or not. Apparently the new migration form has that as an option too. On the Pro packages, you'd be absolutely stoopid to opt for PPU.
 
If you are in a data package with MTN or Vodacom and you finish your bandwidth, you pay between R1 and R2 (most are R1 to R1.20) on vodacom and R1.20 to R1.50 on MTN (Most are R1.20). As Riverdusty says, there is no carry over of data with MTN or Vodacom.

iBurst offer you R0.95 per MB. Whilst this is more expensive than ADSL package top ups, this is cheaper than the other wireless providers. Just for the record, MyWireless is R2 per MB.
 
iBurst is more a fixed wireless product, while MTN/Vodacom are truly mobile. Most people using the R1/2 per MB out of bundle would only be doing light browsing on their cellphones imo. You'd be crazy to use a data card with HSDPA at those prices.

I think he means that most of the customers use iBurst in one location. I do know of people with the PCMCIA card that travel around.
So remember I said /MOST/ of the customers. But don't quote me.
We're talking about a general consensus, not what it could be used for, or what products they offer. So, Define:Fixed Wireless Product as - *MOST* clients use the product in a fixed location.
If you use it at home and at work, thats still a fixed location, kinda, its, uh, 2 fixed locations? But you're not in your car at McDonald's, is what is implied.
