I have arranged with one of the gardeners in our complex to help me paint and take some stuff to the dumping site, what is a reasonable amount to pay for the day?

In general how much is a reasonable amount to pay someone for casual work e.g. Painting, cleaning, garden work?

Was thinking around there.

I'm more worried about paying too much. I often get laughed at when people hear I pay my maid R250 per day. I always want to help the person out and feel sorry, but always end up getting shafted..

We pay our gardener R150 p/day, but the going rate in JHB and PTA is a bit higher than in Vereeniging.

I pay my gardener and maid the same.

If you can afford to pay more, then there is no reason for not doing so. Just thinking of having to paint something again makes me want to hand over the cash.

Oh, by the way, its only one bedroom. I can't imagine the guy working for longer than 5 hours..

But then again, I guess you need to pay for the day as he/she is willing to be there the whole day, its only you that needs them for less.

I need a good maid who isnt lazy or has an attitude and actually wants to work for her money
Last 3 quote R200 upwards per day but merely want to dust stuff.
Two of them were bigger than me so I just kept my mouth shut

I make use of a char service here in CPT, it's R180 for 6.5 hours of work, they drop them off and pick them up, plus give them something to eat.

"Our Fees Weekdays

R180 - 1 char dropped and collected no extras - 6.5hours (from drop off to collection) - 30min lunch
R190 - 1 char dropped and collected with cleaning products, materials, mop and broom - 6.5hours (from drop off to collection) - 30min lunch
R200 - 1 char dropped and collected with cleaning products, materials, mop, broom and vacuum - 6.5hours (from drop off to collection) - 30min lunch"

What worries me about using those services is that you don't know who you gonna get (theft etc.). If you have a maid via a referral, you can usually get a good trustworthy one.

Yes and no I guess, if they steal something they will get fired, so they generally don't steal? Also if you not happy with the work done, they will send another char the next time around until you happy.

If you know where Walton's used to be in Bellville you can pick a char up and cut out the middle man :)
