Hey guys, so I have a fine that is due today. Is it possible to have it reduced, or is that just a rumour? I gotta go pay it in the next few hours.

I know that in Joburg if you pay on time you automatically get 50% off. In PE you have to request it I believe. No idea what happens in Slaap Stad.

Did you receive the fine via registered post? As in was it delivered to your property and somebody had to sign for it, or did you have to go to the post office and show your ID?

If not, the fine is invalid according to the AARTO act.

On fines in Jhb/Pta they typically state specifically that if you pay by date x you only have to pay x. This is also reflected on http://www.payfine.co.za, but I believe this is due to the AARTO trial - if it's not mentioned on your fine, you will likely have to go in to your local traffic department in order to get the discount.

If you get a picture with your fine showing 2 cars, is it right and how do they know which car was speeding:confused:?

I never pay, I just wait for the court order:whistle:. If myself or somebody else, sign for it then I pay:mad:
It's what the law prescribes and I use it to my advantage.

Court order never comes though:D

You must add to their workload

Hmm, I just found the letter in my post box. I think that the AARTO isn't implemented in Cape Town yet. Now I can't even find the fine. I was speeding on the N1 heading home from Paarl. So the ticket is for the Wellington municipality, not even sure if I can pay it in town.

Where did you guys get the information about tickets being illegal if not sent via registered mail?

Wait for the court summons. Go to the Cape Town Magistrates' Court. There is an office dedicated to traffic fines. Just say you can't afford it, they'll give you 50% off. You can take five at a time. If you have more than five, you can do five at a time and then rejoin the queue at the end for the next batch.

I used to do this in the 90's.
