Payment Gateway Pricing

I was comparing some SA payment gateways today. I've seen that PayFast seem to be recommended by alot of people, but when checking their fees out, they seem to charge 4.9% per transaction + R2.00. This seems like a ludicrously high amount to charge, unless there is something I'm missing. They have no monthly fees and no setup charge, but I think you'd just need to clear R5k a month in credit card takings to get more value out of other payment gateways who do charge a monthly fee but where their transaction costs are much cheaper. Am I missing something here??

By no means an expert, but perhaps that is an attractive feature that you can do less than R5000 a month and still have a credit card facilty. The questions is what kind of revenue the people were doing who recommended payfast.

Looks like you need to find something that suits YOUR requirements such as revenue stream and price to customer and then from there go to the company who provides best service.
