Hi

We all know that PayPal doesn't support the South African Rand, due to the government thinking it would threaten our economy (as I've heard), but what I have seen, is that some websites are using 3rd party tools to convert the Rand to USD for PayPal Express Checkout.

What I would like to know is, is this legal?

If it isn't, what do you think the consequences for such actions are?

Would like to hear your opinions on this.

Thanks
S

What do you mean "is this legal"? Of course it is. To *trade* in Rands (aka, buy **** with it through PayPal) isn't legal. That's for Dollars (internationally). So if you convert Rand to Dollar using the exchange rate (or whatever "3rd parties" you talk of). You charge the person the dollar equivilant of what they would have paid in Rand.

Last I checked it's legal to do business in south africa, unless there's some new kind of law that past. Then we're all ****ed...

So then why doesn't SARS let the rand be supported in PayPal if there would be easy currency conversions with 3rd party tools?

The bigger question is: Can a South African merchant sell to South African citizens in dollars?
