Nuclear is almost always subsidised by the state. The mining of the Uranium, the refining, transport, the construction of the plant, training of staff, regulation and licensing, decommissioning. Who pays for all of that??

I don't trust any African nation with keeping standards high enough to safely use nuclear power of any kind. I am sorry, I simply don't. The continent and its governing systems are simply too juvenile to do this at an acceptably low risk.

Who pays for all of that for a coal plant? Whether from taxes or increased fees we will be paying for these things no matter what type of plant they go for.

I'm happy for them to consider nuclear power stations ahead of coal as the effect the coal plants have on our environment is huge.

It's not that hard:

There are easier and cheaper ways to enrich your uranium. First transform the gas into a liquid by subjecting it to pressure. You can use a bicycle pump for this. Then make a simple home centerfuge, Fill a standard-size bucket one-quarter full of liquid uranium hexaflouride. Attach a six-foot rope to the bucket handle. Now swing the rope (and attached bucket) around your head as fast as possible. Keep this up for about 45 minutes. Slow down gradually, and very gently put the bucket on the floor. The U-235, which is lighter, will have risen to the top, where it can be skimmed off like cream.

The issue is enough power to meet our needs, not the same capacity as a nuclear plant

Unfortunately the amount needed to meet our needs is that of a nuclear plant. How many townhouse complexes pop-up in a year? Thousands upon thousands!!

Lots and lots of very scared people here. Like I said long ago, nuclear power is very very clean and safe when managed properly. Nuclear power won't screw up the atmosphere like coal would.

As I understand it, a fuel pellet or ball lasts a long time, the relative amount of fuel used each year is not large in comparison to coal. I once read that a submarine runs for 26 days on 3-5 grams of U-235.

Like I said long ago, nuclear power is very very clean and safe when managed properly. Nuclear power won't screw up the atmosphere like coal would.

And like I said, humans are not good at managing nuclear power properly. In terms of screwing up the atmosphere, check out what Chernobyl did, and could do again if not re-sealed:
