From time to time I've wished I had a little x-ray machine to peer into devices to see what's inside and how to open them.

I imagine a handheld x-ray gun and a USB-attach sensor/plate, much like the one some dentists have.

Anyone know of anything available on the local market?

The easiest way is to make friends with a dentist its only about R80 per x-ray...

That's Plan B. Such a schlep to lug stuff over. Would prefer to zap a snap right here.
I don't think it would be sensible to buy something like that... I don't think you get hobbyist-priced x-rays. Besides, it will be quite a bit more expensive than hobbyist-priced thermal imagers, which are already too expensive.

You'll never get a licence for those purposes.

Can also be used for dentistry.

Darwin will come knocking... +1
But I'll convert my Sn hat to Pb. :p

Thanks for the concern, though. I've a pretty good understanding of Röntgen Rays, exposure, dosages, etc. This is not stuff you mess with lightly. Very useful. And safe when appropriate precautions are taken.

+1 which is why the dentist makes a hasty exit with his remote trigger :D
