I got home on Saturday afternoon and my home PC was frozen with no response to input or even the reset button.

Starting the machine up after that proved impossible until today. I have taken all the expansion cards, RAM, CPU and fan etc out and reseated it all.

The odd occasion I actually got the motherboard POST lights to fire (MemOK - briefly as normal) then it shows the Windows logo on boot and freeze while starting windows with a brief blue screen (Windows 8 " :( " screen).

One occasion I got into the BIOS and watched the hardware stats for 2 minutes before it froze in the BIOS. Temperatures and voltages appeared to be normal.

Today has been the first time since Saturday that I have been able to get into Windows and the machine has been up and running for the past hour. I am writing this post on my desktop machine.

Last thing I did yesterday evening was take the BIOS battery out... this has been the first boot since I did that.

I am worried it will refuse to start again. Any experience with issues like this?

I tested last night after your post with another PSU and the problem persists. :(

The machine froze again after about two hours of functioning correctly. The music that played was becoming stutter like for 15 seconds and the machine froze.
