PC build for Server 2012

Howdy

I am planning on upgrading my MCSE to Server 2012 R2 and need to build / buy a PC to test on.

The requirement is two fold.

Needs to be sufficient to run Server 2012 and then once done, I will use it to replace my HP Microserver N36l as a full time Media Server (running XBMC)

I thought of the new Gen8 HP and add more memory and an SSD, but would appreciate your ideas.

The PC will be running 24/7 so power consumption is a concern.

Im writing my upgrade exam tomorrow. Im assuming you got MCSE 2003? If I may ask why didnt you upgrade to 08 and then 12?

Mine is still the original MCSE NT4.0. Didnt think there was a point jumping through all the hoops. Dont think that there is any benefit.

Which exam are you writing and how have you found studying for it?

If you have a machine use vmware or hyperv = free. Otherwise microserver would be most cost effective

Im upgrading to 08 MCTS (70-649). Hard to find study guides and material. Im not using cheatsheets as that defeats the point and is stupid as you wont be able to do the work required. Studying has been hard. There are alot of commands and their switches to remember. Also subnetting/supernetting is not my strongsuit.

I installed 08 on a spare partition and on that install I ran another VM of 08 to be the member server.
 
Failed for the second time today :( So hard to find proper decent study material :(
