My boet has tasked me with building him a PC, 27K was the budget. I know, some people just have too much money.

Anyhoo, this is what I decided on

i7 950
Rampage III Gene, no need for full size as SLI was not wanted
EVGA GTX480
3x2GB Corsair XMS3 1600CL9
CM Scout
Corsair HX650
2 x 128GB Corsair performance series SSD's in RAID0
1.5TB WD Green
Samsung BX2450 LED LCD
Microsoft X5 and X6
Sammy 24x writer
Hyper 212 plus cooler
Windows 7 home premium 64bit
LianLi dual SSD rack for 3.5" bay

Thoughts, updates etc? The reason I took the Corsair SSd's is because the GSkills and OCZ's are out of stock where ever I look

This came to just under R23000

He wanted 200GB+ for application installation etc and a single drive is more expensive that 2 smaller ones and is also slower. I know TRIM is lost when using RAID but that's not an issue

I'll check out the GX750 PSU, that a Coolermaster?

Only one screen? Although you need to go SLI if you want 3 screens out of a GTX480 which would put it back out of budget again.

just putting it out there... why not go for the hexacore processor?

+1 Nothing comes close to that kind of performance :) All at a huge cost though :P

Edit: I am of course referring to the i7 980 XE :D

Nice build ;)

stick to the Corsair for PSU HX750-850 (i would take the 850 if there was still money to spend)
SSD in raid0 .... nice .... which i had the money :D

PS: if i was your brother, i would have insisted on ATI .... ... but thats just me ... 6 of the one & half a dozen of the other :p

Why do you need more than one screen on a gaming machine?
Also the Sammy p2770H is a good screen 27'' :)

I've had 2x5770's xfire and a few 5850's and a 5870 so I sguuested he try the GTX480 as I have heard only good things.

I had the T260 and found I actually had to move my head to from one side to the other of the screen. He's currently on an old Gigabyte 19" so this will be much better.

I know the 6 core cpu is pricey but its going to future proof the machine, nothing will be able to touch that bad boy. wish i had 27000 to spend on a computer

Yes tbh the GTX 480 is a great card, the only downside is that it is kinda noisy at default. The temps are roughly the same as my old 4870 witch was 88C on furmark. Thats why i got a aftermarket cooler :)
Both temps and noise are great now.

Why do you want a 1920x1080 screen? 1024x768 worked wonders back in the day... So why not make the next step and go for 5760x1080? Racing games and first person shooters get a huge benefit from the closer simulation of real world perception

Im not so sure about future proofing, but they move :)

Promoting eyefinity much?

It will be much better, when they start building affordable Borderless monitors

Thanks for the advice guys, I have upped the PSU to the HX750 and the 1.5TB is now a 2TB drive.

Should be pretty good, I will post the windows experience score when built.
