pc building !! woot ... GPU time !

The reason GPU manufacturers overstate the PSU required is so that noobs who happen to have 6 hard drives, 5 million fans, and an overkill CPU will still be able to power their GPU properly. Which in turn means less PT for the manufacturer in terms of answering customer support calls/emails and possible incorrect RMA's

ok...

The superchannel PSU's are crap period. I was mearly stating that you said a 5770 draws more power than a 6870.

You said: "Like I said, the 6870 draw LESS power than the 5770, so there really shouldnt be a problem. I'm not saying he shouldnt replace the crummy PSU, I'm just saying there is zero reason to think it wouldnt work with the current PSU"

Yes I know that those psu manufaturarers overstate it.
Yes they do because the know that poeple reading it 80% of the time have PSU's that is rated at PEAK POWER.

I work at a PC shop, and a well known one aswell, Poeple don't know what the difference is between a Superchanel 500Watt and a Corsair CX 430Watt, The Superchannel will be cheaper but according to everyones math 500W > 430W.

PSU's that you buy you really get what you pay for.

A 2600K @ 4.2 and a overclocked GTX 570 with 8GB RAM and 5 HDD's a Corsair H70 and 6 fans only pulls 370Watts of power at full load from tha wall with Prime95 and furmark running simultaneously.
But I bet you putting that superchannel in that setup will blow the PSU.

Dude why do your toaster have a setting that it can completely black the toast?
Why can you buy a car that can do 250Km/h for R 250 000?
Or a Bike that can do 330km/h for have that price.
Same logic?? You know that you will 99% of the time not drive that fast every day.
So why buy a PSU that will be stressed at 95% and blow after a couple of months.

@Draconia2

a Corsair GS 600 will be more than adequate to drive either a 6850 or a 6870.
They are good PSU's and worth a look at.

thnx, i will keep that in mind hey, i know that its a risk using the superchannel but its all that i could afford at that time or risk getting a carp gfx card that wont last me 6 months on 1920x1080 :)

it just doesnt have all the features a nice corsair has plus its not that efficient yet its been doing a fine job for all its been thrown at =

frost/snow / heavy OC until system goes unstable / ramped up speeds in bios and rain/dust/heat lol :D

i will check out alot of psu's once i get the card and do tests thnx man

One, you clearly missed the part where I admitted my mistake. I do that when I'm wrong
Two, so you dont have the actual specs for the PSU?
Three, can you explain what contentious ratings are yet?
Four, ownig a PC store makes you knowledgeable how? So why bring that up?
Five, if you get this far, maybe go back and check where I said earlier, 350W will be fine but I'm not recommending a crummy PSU. I also happen to agree that you shouldnt be runnnig a PSU near max load. Somewhere between 50-80% is ideal. So I have no idea why you still fighting with me

...

Not fighting, just stating that not all people knows what Continuous means, and not all PSU's are created equal.
Sorry meant continuous.
I do not own a shop I said I work at one, based of that experience of people that buy PSU's.
350Watt will be fine and I agree with you on that but 80% IMO from a PSU is still a bit high doesn't leave much room for future upgrades.
