I have a problem where every time i shock (static electricity) my pc crashes.

I can be a good feet away from my pc and the shock will still make it crash.

This has happened 4 times today already.

Any advise regarding this issue? What can i do to stop it?

I feel like I'm slowly killing my pc >.<"

I ve never tried this but.....Earth your pc case. Give it a try. Wind is dry air is dry = a lot of static electricity

When a pc is plugged into a wall socket it is automatically grounded? Or so I thought...but static still makes it crashes. I'm not even touching my desk or the pc, and a static discharge from myself would make it crash.

PC case is already earthed through the power supply if on a proper power lead and extension...

But it is awful atm, had to bath and condition the dog, she kept zapping herself(and us) getting on and off blankets and the like...

What are you discharging to?

Likely your earth on your power cable is damaged/does not exist.

Try a different power cord or put the box onto a rubber/anti static surface.

My son does this sometimes.
Wakes us up crying, so we -put him in between us in the bed, then every time he moves it's little lightning bolts everywhere.

Put your PC on an open surface, not close to a mat. See if it switches off.
If it does then test a different power supply.
It the problem persists then take apart your system and put it back together, making sure that everything is plugged in properly on the motherboard.

Maybe the Wall socket is not properly grounded. Try plug it into a completely different socket, from another room - use an extension cord or move the computer to test.
Could even be that your house power is not properly earthed, you may need to get an electrician to check.

Thanks for the replies! I will try a multi-plug first, and place to box on top of the table, rather than on the carpet.

If that doesn't sort it out i will continue to the more tedious solutions :D

I you cannot solve the earthing problem, before you go near your PC, DONT wear any shoes, socks or slippers, bare feet is best. The other solution is to carry a bare metal key with you, touch it to any metal window frame or screw on a light or power socket plate. If you see a spark jump from the key to the metal, then consider wearing cotton clothes, rather than nylon. I used to work with explosives and we were issued with anti static shoes and cotton overalls. The metal key works a treat to "earth" yourself beforehand and rid the static buildup.

True true. It should be already earthed
