Deben...
I've been unplugging my equipment due to lightning etc. especially when i'm not home...

I noticed my pc will not switch on when I plug everything back in. There's definately power to the board as my Network, Bluetooth and onboard LED's all lite up! - Just no power up when you push the power switch!... Initially ripped the whole thing apart, checked everything - nothing... flicked the cmos reset - voila...

Anyway, its now happened the third time... Cmos reset was clearly not the real issue... and I've noticed if I leave it plugged in, but off for about an hour, it will then permit me to switch it on, or if I pushed the power switch an hour before, it will power on...

Power supply? Motherboard?

I'm leaning towards power supply... Its a Cooler Master with Under and Over Voltage protection. I'm guessing its got a little upset with power spikes etc... and me unplugging it all the time...

What you guys think? Anybody else come across this problem?

PSU is failing. That is how they usually start before they fail. Could take a while tho.

Which Cooler Master would that be btw?

Sounds like the motherboard powers up but doesn't POST. It could be the motherboard, or the power supply, or both the motherboard AND power supply.

Before you plug the power cable back into your PC, make sure the wall socket switch is off so that there's no current flowing when you plug the cable into your PC.

Also, before you unplug the power cable from your PC, first switch off the wall socket switch, then unplug.

Some PSU's send little power surges through your motherboard when you fiddle with the power cable while there's still current running through it.

Its the RS-750-ACAA-A1 - I see they don't have it listed on the website anymore... its 2 years odd old now...

worst thing that could happen, its the board... in which case I'd have a new power supply... and have to buy a new i7, board, and ram...

No. The LED's on the Internal parts comes on... but the actual machine does not power up. does not reach post.
I know a fare amount about PC's... I appreciate the step by step, but I can do it with my hands tied behind my back blindfolded and penis guided :)

So just curious who's had similar issues, if they managed to solve it without throwing too much cash at it... Because If I do throw cash at it, I spend BIG... which is not good for my bank accounts... ;) I also think Power supply, but will be *** if I'm wrong!... as I'm going to have to put up with a temperamental PC for a few months till my money tree grows... just hope it doesn't get worse!...

Sounds like PSU to me, I've had it so many times, the exact same symptoms. Was the PSU everytime. Plus you have an Asus motherboard (need I say more?).

But to be sure, try another PSU before splashing on something else.

I think your PSU should still be under warranty if its under 3 years old.

Short the startup jumpers on the PSU connector for the board and see if it turns on on command
If it works everytime the board may not be responding and sending the startup signals ( could even be something as simple as a bad ground making the change in Voltage from 0-x a bit harder to determine unless it was completely discharged

Other thing to try is to turn off/unplug the PSU,pressing the power button on the PC,then plugging it back in and seeing if it responds then

Bekdik - everything is up to date ;)

PsyWolf - I've stripped one component off at a time... no change. Even with everything disconnected, no ram, no cpu, could not get the board to power on.

Shorted out the Battery and ran clear cmos... didnt help. Shorted the power on pins on the mobo... makes no difference - hence its not the switch...
When the Machine is in its Off State, the Bluetooth Dongle's lights are on, the S3 post light on the board is on - so there is power to the board!, and discharges accordingly when i unplug the unit. The problem only flairs up when the machine has been standing for a long time without mains.

It must be the PSU... I'm going to either take it in and have it seen to, or buy a new Corsair 850w supply from Sybaritic...

Still deciding... but for now, will only unplug the pc's if I really need to and deal with the power on delay, otherwise, they can remain on!

Cooler master makes one of the worst psus ever
Running 2x Cooler Master Silent Pro. One of the best I've ever had (and every single review concurs). Generally I'd say yes however and the Silent Pro is only worth the price if you have a nearly silent PC. It is right up there with the best when it comes to noise (top 3). The Silent Pro Gold is POS tho, hellishly expensive, noisier than non-Gold, what is the point? (there are cheaper 80Plus Gold PSUs)

I'd say go for Corsair, Seasonic or Enermaxx. Take it from someone who has bought some of the other "great" brands. Those 3 have never failed me, not once.

I have a machine I experience the exact same problem on. I also tried everything you have done, but was not in the mood to buy a new power supply, because it already had a fairly new one... I've just learned to live with it...
