Hi,my PC DVD rom broke recently after i inserted the new NAG dvd,the disc says NAG jan 2009 but there is nothing inside i tried inserting other DVD's but they just read as blank discs, this is not the first time i had a problem with a NAG disc some of my friends also have the same problem but they bought a new DVD rom since Com Corp says the lenz is broken and a new DVD rom is needed. So here is my Question:should i keep buying Nag DVD's or should i just let it go,also was wondering if anyone else on the forum has had this kind of problem before with a NAG disc and if someone can help me fix my DVD rom cause i don't think it's the lenz since it reads the NAg disc but it's emty and other disc's are emty (blank).

The NAG DVDs and CDs did cause some problems years ago. People were reporting that they were hard to read (the drive would spin erratically and very loud), sometimes the discs shattered inside the drive. But this was a good 5 or 10 years ago. I have not heard of the problem since then. It may just be that your drive was on its way out and this one disc finally killed. ROM drives do sometimes die. How old was the drive? I am assuming it is out of warranty?

If you take it to a computer repair shop and they say it is the lens that is busted, I doubt you will find anyone in South Africa that will replace the lens. They will all rather just tell you to buy a new drive since the cost of a new lens/laser (R300) and the labour (R300 per hour) is going to exceed the cost of a new drive (R350 max).

My advice is ... just buy a new drive.
