What happened to PC Game and Computer World? Can't find them on the web. And the shop in Sandton City is closed.

They still have a shop in Centurion Mall ... but weren't they taking alot of flack a while back wrt Pirate OS copies on the PCs they sell?

I went to the Menlyn one back in May this year. It was so empty and there wasn't much in there.

The one at the Kolonnade Retail park also closed down. Maybe the whole franchise folded?

Yep , the one in sandton city was becoming a bit sad, offered to take a G15 keyboard that they still had listed for like R 899.00 for R 600.00 , but they refused, said they still need to pay rent for the month.

I think they were only second to incredible , but sometimes they even worse in price rip-offs.

Yeah, was alot of complaints about pirate software (including os) going around. I also heard complaints about how they sold second hand parts in their computers as new gear. Didnt happen to me, so cant say if it was true or not, but it fits to this whole closing down thing.

their sandton shop had lotsa stock ... for a pc business to outlay so much cash on stock bit crazy ... esp considering the depreciation of pc equipment ...

i used to work at the fourways branch and no we didnt use second hand hardware lol

Its sad to hear that they have just about gone under... I used to go to the very first shop they had in Sunnyside, Pretoria... I was surprised when they expanded very quickly, but it looks like too quickly for their own good....

The shop in Canal Walk in Cape Town also closed down about a year ago, btw... Had "reduced" prices in the shop, but some of them were still more expensive than on the net...

lol...

Otherwise, buying online is waaay cheaper than in store less over-head costs, rent and staff to pay :)

I remember never being able to even e-mail them for work purposes, which gave some bad signs already.

In a way it's a pity the one at Canal Walk closed, because they had many things that a tweaker would want to actually purchase from a shop, things like fans, lights, and other kit. While it's great to have our online stores, sometimes being able to buy it then and there is a nicer feeling.

I do agree about their prices being high though, I was looking in old NAG's, and found some adverts. It seemed rather inflated compared to other adverts.

Also, I think something that hurt the Canal branch was the whole 6000 man LAN tournament they went on about that turned out to be a major flop. That caused some serious negeative PR IIRC.

Maybe they should not have expanded so quick, or should have stayed in games only. Also, if they were pirating the OS, Microsoft would be after them pretty quickly.
