Hey guys, just want your opinions on something. My PC is under performing on all the new games and also on some of the older games .Here is my specs :

AMD Athlon 64 3800+, Sapphire HD4850, 2gig ram, 300gig HDD, 500w PSU.

I know the cpu is a bit old, but will a new one realy make a big difference? Im looking the buy the 64 5200+.

Any comments will be apreciated.

Thanks

IS your CPU Socket 939 or AM2?

New games seem to like larger cache sizes like the Core2 Duo's.

mm, then I would suggest a Tri-core or Phenom quad chip (check your motherboard compatibility)

What motherboard do you have?

You cpu is holding back your graphics card. Get the 5200+ or 5600+.

If you go tri or quad you'll need to update your bios.

I would not upgrade from a 3800+ to a 5200+ the difference is so tiny.

If you want to get the best out of your system buy something like a 9950 or 9850be or buy intel.

Why don't u just wait till the new Cpu's come out from Amd next year Jan/feb maybe later?

Good point. The new Phenom II X4 seems to be the CPU AMD needed to compete with the 45nm Core2's. There are issues with the high power draw of the Phenom I X4 killing some older AM2 boards. Phenom II should sort that out.

What is the new CPU called thats AMD going to release that you guys said i must get?
