Hi

I'm all new to this PC stuff. I was recently given an old PC, just wondering if I can upgrade it for some gaming or is it to old and outdated? Am I wasting my time.

These are the specs I know:

P4 3Ghz H/T
2GB Corsair xms Gaming Ram
80Gig SATA hardrive
Nvidia Geforce 6200 256MB Graphics card
Intel mainboard

If upgrades can be done, what would be recommended?

Thanks
Scott

Looking at that, it looks like the motherboard only supports AGP? So a new GPU is out the question, as well as CPU.

Use it as a media center :)

Change CPU... which means changing mobo, which means your ram won't work which will then be bottle necked on your GPU.... its too old and outdated man... sorry.

this is a seriously outdated machine, if you want something for gaming you'll have to start from scratch

Pretty much what has been stated already,to get it decent you'll be better served getting a new PC

Another option is to find out what CPU's/RAM/Graphics are compatible with that motherboard, and try and get hold of a 2nd hand one that is top of the range and compatible. Although old tech, you can still use it for the basics like e-mail, web, media server, etc.

Unless you want to play the latest games, shop around BoB and eBay and see what you can find for the upgrades. Many of us here have older hardware lying around that we could assist you with if needed... ;)

Depends which P4 3GHz it is there were 3 iirc, if it's a LGA775 version you could probably still get a half decent processor for it and hopefully RAM too.

As a gaming machine any of the games from 6 years ago would run on it... :P

If it's a 478 version make a media center or file server or use it for basic internet usage
