Hi everyone,
I just need some answers regarding importing a PC from a friend in the US, I am paying for the shipping and am wondering what kind of import tax/duty costs I can expect when it gets here or any tips regarding if I need documentation or anything else?? It's not a full pc, Its simply the components, that will be in their original packaging and all in one big box.
I read something about 15% of the total cost but I'm not buying it, its simply just a package from a friend. Any tips would be appreciated, and yes, I am getting the PC for about 30% of the original price soo its worth the shipping

I recently imported 5 different PC parts from America. They hit me with 15% VAT, a 10% luxury fee. No other import duties were charged on the parts. But then, Fedex also added around R400 clearance fee for their services, in addition to the shipping fee.

Thank you!
Would you know how they work out the value of the items? or do we have to state on the packaging the value? We arent trying to hide the full value I don't mind paying the tax on that, Im just figuring out the best way to do it as the item / shipment is not from a business?

You will will need to declare the value of the purchased item(s). So, the seller should provide an invoice. Fedex may contact you when the goods arrive in SA and request a commercial invoice and/or proof of payment.

You can ask your friend to add an invoice which will then be used when clearance is done.
