Since yesterday, my pc's internet connection suddenly stops working.
My router is in modem mode - the pc stays connected (wirelessly) to the router and the dialup connection to the isp is not dropped but no websites can be accessed. Other things that are a bit weird is that I cannot access my router after this occurs. Restarting the pc and redailing seems to fix the issue. I can confirm this is not a problem with the router or the accounts as the other pcs seem to be working fine...

Really suspecting a virus here :( ran NOD with no luck and went and dl'd a t rial of Norton internet security and ran that. Both came back negative :/

Help help help!!
(Running Windows 7 home premium)

have you tried scanning for malware?

Try malware bytes ( there are a few others to)

you might also need to Remove & reinstall your wifi/lan drivers...

ya i will remove the Norton, was just trying for a 2nd opinion.
will try malware bytes now and see what happens.

Change DNS on connections and test:

Google:
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4

OpenDNS:
Primary: 208.67.222.222
Secondary: 208.67.220.220

i think it would also be a good example of the purpose for forums if you attempted a semi-relevant response in your replies but hey that's just me.

scanned the pc last night using malware bytes, nothing out of the ordinary. The same problem just happened twice... becoming quite irritating.
Can someone just elaborate on terasides suggestion? and perhaps some insight into wtf is happening.

what i am asking is whether I should be changing the dns for the IPv6 or the IPv4 and which connection should I change this for. The connection for my isp accs or the wireless connection to the router.

Wireless connection to the Router, IPV4. If it's stable, you can apply DNS changes on your Router.

using the open dns didn't seem to help. con just died again. trying the google one now...

uploaded pic to just make sure this is what was you meant.

what other issues could this be? problem only started occurring 2 days ago. should i try a 3rd AV?

edit: wifi drivers, windows drivers, mobo drivers all up to date

That's correct.

If it's not a DNS issue it could be your ADSL line itself. Check your Filters. Make sure the phones\faxes are running through a decent filter, make sure the DSL line is directly connected to the jack.

Phone Telscum and request a port reset on your line. Don't dibble dabble with them, just say this my ADSL Number, please do a port reset on my line.

See if it's resolved, if it's not, report the fault with Telscum or your ISP, dependent where your line is hosted.

Can it still be a line issue if the other computers running on the same network do not lose connectivity at all?
We'll see how this goes, don't want to jinx it but the google dns hasnt mucked up yet.

No. Then it's the PC.

I tend to think it's your Wireless drivers. My rule with Wireless drivers is to stick with a driver that works. I've seen countless times how upgrading Wireless drivers mucks everything up.

The wireless drivers were last updated in 2009 (no newer updates available). The problem just recurred now again :(
Going to try run the full version of malware byte now :/ no other ideas anyone?

Which Security Set are you using for the Wireless?

Try to use WPA2 with a PreShared key on the Router and see if it improves.

Use channel 6-11 on the Wireless as well, since it could be someone else' Wireless that is interfering with yours.

Just test the channels from 6 to 11 until you get a stable connection.

using Mixed WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK atm, switched to channel 11.
What is really strange is, when the problem occurs I can no longer access my router even though it shows that I am connected.
Reconnecting to it does not help either (it reconnects "fine"). Is there a way to check whether my wireless card is fkd?

Deleting the device in device manager then restarting might do the trick. You never know what hidden powers Windows default drivers might have :P
