greetings folks from the interwebz. hope all is well! got a thing, my pc has started making sounds effects, for what of a better description, it sounds like a car that struggles to start. all the time. everything works though as it should. do I need to be worried? what could it be? last I checked all the fans were working.

thanks in advance

Most probably the fans in all likelihood..
Clean them a bit, including the PSU and CPU fan, sometimes the bearings on those fans wear out over time and you have to replace them.

If you're running old disk drives that could also contribute to noise but this is speculation with no build info

What are your specs?

well, its my work pc, and its at least 5 years old. so a pretty basic i3, 4gb ram, no gfx card. no serious computing power ever needed or used, except maybe lots of firefox or opera tabs open at a time.

Does it happen all the time or only when its cold then goes away once its warmed up?

take the fans out, pull the sticker off, pull the rubber/plastic tab underneath the stickers off, put a drop or 3 of household oil into the hole.
Put the cover back and put the sticker back
Done with noise.

hmmm... tis my work pc.. not going to take a chance with that. Im fairly not *** with pc internals, but Im gonna play it safe. as mentioned, all the fans look like they work as intended

hah funneh guy. I am IT lol. we're a very small company so it is what it is

So you are in the IT department for a small company and don't know how to sort out a basic issue like a fan/pc making noise, eish

doesnt mean anything, could be anything really,
can you hear it all the time? does copying anything make it louder?

if its the fans, nothing you can do much about that, unless you want to dismantly and piece together your PC,
Id recommend going to Ifixit and trying to find a guide on your specific model

Well first things first, where is the noise coming from? Have you tried tapping the psu, or manually stopping the fans with your finger to see if you can isolate the noise? Have you done any troubleshooting?

Take off case cover - stop each fan with your finger/pen if you scared - noise should stop after one of the fans stops - turn off PC - unplug fan - unscrew fan from case - take it to a pc shop and buy a new one.

If it is the CPU fan please take it to someone to do for you.

It in a small company can mean the random guy that knows how to plug stuff in and install whatever programs they use.
