Pc ping issues

So the boy tells me I get about 10+ better ping than him in the same game.
I that possible?
Both pc's are on ethernet cable around the same length.
He claims it might be his motherboard? My motherboard and cpu are a bit better but not much. Can that be the issue or is he bargaining for a new motherboard/cpu?
Anything else that can cause this?

I doubt 10ms will make much of a difference in game. You might just have a better ethernet chipset on your motherboard.

Why don't you just ping the router from both PCs, to see if it's a local issue?
