4 years = i would move on.

laptops arent the easiest to fix = will cost money.

intern i would just buy new one honestly

Grinding noises...reboots...could be the drive, in which case a simple drive replacement could resolve the problem. Start with some basic troubleshooting.

Could be something as simple as a dying fan. Can't really think of anything else that makes grinding noises.

Download service manual, strip laptop, clean out, figure out what's causing the noise and if it't the fan replace it.

By the time a drive makes loud grinding noises the pc usually no longer boots, but it's not impossible.

Probably overheating. If you take off the bottom panel you will see the copper cooling channels. They get stuffed with dust and is easily cleaned out.

We use these guys for out of warranty repairs:

Your laptop my only need a minor service at a cost of probably less than R400. If they say it's fukked, THEN get a new one.

Take it to Turbo Tech, Old Stanhope Road, Claremont (opposite Auric Auto's workshop) Very reasonable and reliable

I've recently had a very good experience with Dial a Nerd Woodstock.

I've heard they are a bit expensive, but they got the job I needed done, well, fast and cost effectively (IMHO)

I see some of these guys provide a free quote, so I may get a quote first before deciding to replace or repair
