Guys, the hard disk on my Acer Aspire 5532 notebook seems to have kicked the bucket. Gonna have to get it replaced.

Anyone know of a good PC repair store in Cape Town with whom you have a good experience?

Thanks!

Just buy a new 2.5" HDD for your laptop and do the installation yourself.

There are a couple of decent PC shops in Cape Town region: Landmark PC / Wootware
And then you get a few walk-in-shops like Computer Mania / Incredible Connection / Dion Wired / Matrix Computers, but be very careful with buying from them!

Expect to pay R2,000+ if you need data recovery. Otherwise replacing with a new 2.5" HDD is simple and all done from the bottom cover of the laptop.

Remove cover underneath laptop.
Remove drive caddy
Remove drive from caddy
Verify SATA or PATA interface
Buy new 2.5" drive from a place like Matrix etc
Reverse above procedure
Install OS
Save mega $$$

Get a bigger, better drive while you're at it. Just make sure it's compatible by asking Acer.

Dude, I'll do it for you for a small fee and I'll recover your data if the disk is still readable

PM me if you want assistance, I have a small computer firm and I manage a handful of clients in my spare time.

This dude did a hit & run post. Don't think you will see him back until his next problem, from the taker crowd :D
