PC restarts randomly

I doubt ram would cause it to restart without warning. The PC would probably freeze first. I any case, remove one ram stick at a time to see if the problem disappears.

How often does it restart?

What are you doing when it restarts?

Try any of these steps:

Have you tried plugging your PC into a different wall socket? It may not even be PC related.

Unplug your keyboard and mouse and try again. You may have to configure the BIOS to not "Stop on Keyboard Errors".

Unplug any other HDD's and disk drives besides your system one.

Disable automatic restart. Right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recover "Settings" > System Failure "Automatically Restart".

Let us know how it goes.

I have disabled auto restart
tried a different wall socket.
Dont have a spare ddr3 ram module
Gonna try unplugging the dvd writer as that is the only additional disk drive i have

Since there isn't any warning messages, it's almost certainly a hardware problem. I'll think about what might be wrong. I love troubleshooting PC's.

Another thing you can do is start you PC then enter the BIOS configuration. Just stay in there and see if the PC restarts. If nothing happens, then boot into Windows Safe Mode. I'm not sure if Win7 has a safe mode though.

So it reboots even when in the Bios? I guess it's probably a motherboard problem.

You said the temp registered in the bios is 37deg? What temp is that? Please post both the cpu and motherboard/system temp. Also, discharge your hands on your PC's metal case, then switch the PC on and physically touch each component in your PC. Let me know which parts feel rather hot. If you think there's a cooling problem, then remove your PC's side panel, take a strong house fan and let it blow into your PC while it's on. I doubt it's a problem with heat though.

You said you upgraded your PSU? Which model are you using at the moment, and which model were you using before? There's the possibility that your upgraded PSU is faulty, although I highly doubt it. I still think it's a motherboard problem.

Reset the CMOS settings (use the jumper next to motherboard battery) then try again.

Reduce the CPU clockrate or "FSB" (called something else on corei3 motherboards) to the lowest speed that your PC boots/POSTs with.

In 90% of the cases of system reboots its either.

1. Drivers / hardware conflict (most likely)
2. Temperature problem on CPU or Graphics card
3. virus (less likely)
