I just put in my brothers 9600po to test it out in my PC, and it was working fine.

Yesterday I installed new the Catalyst 8.6, I think, and now when I try to load one of my previous saves the PC restarts as it finishes loading, sometimes it gets in and then suddenly resets.

It seems like starting a new game doesn't have this problem. Any solution so I can use my save games?

P.S. As far as I remember it was working with the new drivers for a while before this started.

I'm running Windows XP SP3

Try some older drivers. I've had this sort of problem many times and with me it's ALWAYS something to do with the drivers.

I'll try re-installing and if that doesn't help I'll try the old drivers again.

I updated the drivers 'cos in the game from first person view my characters arms and weapons were flashing all the time, tried fiddling with settings and that didn't help, so I assumed drivers.

My PSU should be strong enough for a 9600pro surely? And like I said it was working fine before, my PSU is a 300w ProCase (generic basically) 30A 5V, 20A 5.5V, 15A 12V.

On top of this the Catalyst control centre says that AGP is disabled, couldn't fix that yet.
Tried BIOS settings and so forth, I suspect a problem with my motherboard, or its drivers as the same was happening with my previous FX 5200.

I would reccomend a 500W PSU for that card. I have a 7900gtx and I needed a 500W.

I think he means he has the Raedon 9600pro not the Geforce 9600. That Raedon uses almost no power

I think 500w is an overating, this card was bought with a second hand system that was running years on a different 300w, also generic.

See here: http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=7&t=9354
a 9600 pro only uses up to 18W AFAIK A = W/V so 18W/12V=1.5A that gives me 13.5A left, plenty. According to same source 7900gtx uses up to 84W, quite a lot more.

I have an addon pci crap old soundcard called an XWAVE4000.

The reset happens in Oblivion as the game screen comes up, or sometimes I get to move for a few seconds then reset. It does not reset if I start a new game, though I haven't played on for long enough to really asess, on the load it's pretty much instant, so it seems like with new game it's fine.

I have had a few random resets (not in Oblivion just normal use) with the card though, since installing the new drivers. I have now re-installed them after un-instaling them, and had no random resets, but still the problem with Oblivion saves, I'll try play into the game later and see what happens though.
