* So Dungeon Siege 2 runs hideously slow on my rig (15-> 29 FPS, seems a general problem on Nvida 6xxx Series cards) .....

* And Civ4 slows down 2 a crawl @ about 1700BC (awaiting new patches too sort out mem leak, last night it was consuming over 500MB RAM!!!)

Other new titles play fine.

Looking for a solid RPG Title, can anyone suggest one or has everyone taken the online route?

It has been a very long time since I have played any games, but Ultima 8 was very cool. And it should run fine on your system :-)

Well the obviouse answer is "Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion". Only it's not out yet and if you have a low end machine it may not work out so well. (http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_overview.htm).

Unfortuneately the age of decent PC RPGs seems to be over. Or hopefully just taking a break. On my list of older and really good RPGs:

*Gothic (I & II) <== EXCELLENT
*Baldur's Gate (I & II)
*Elder Scrolls III : Morrowind (can pick up the GotY edition including expansions for about R200)
*Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura
*Fallout Series (Not Fallout Tactics)
*Planescape: Torment

P4 2.8 / 1GB RAM / 6600GT (pointless upping now, off to Europe soon)

Yeah, i've been looking @ the RPG's out there and nothing is grabbing me.

Thinking about looking @ WoW but i cant see myself dedicating that much time into it (R7 X2 64K channels still get's pricey after a while).

To the WoW players, realistically i will probably only be able to spend 10-12 hours every weekend, is it worth it with that amount of time?

No probs with WoW and not much time m8....WoW is very casual for gaming.

As Gouged said, Gothic 1 n 2 are amazing. Good RPG titles...If you prefer the Hacks/Slash Dungeon Siege style RPG try Sacred.

Oblivion and Gothic 3 look insane. Will be worth waiting for.

Since heading to Euro, WoW wont be bad idea either...least good latency :p

Guild Wars may not be a bad idea for you too....Very casual Online Game. Nice Graphics, nice gameplay

yea elder scrolls and gothic are my fav games of all times.

btw, a month ago, before i got my new pc, i was running dungeon seige 2 on a 1ghz duron with a geforce 2, you shouldnt be having that much of a problem ;P

Civ IV's 1.52 patch sorts out the slowdown problem.

As for Oblivion, i will get the PC version solely for the purposes of the upcoming MODs which will surely arrive for it.

Buying myself a xbox360 to play this baby, why? because its cheaper than upgrading hehe :)
Don't trust sealed boxes. what are they trying to hide anyway? I wonder if you can rip out the components in a 360 and put them to better use?

As long as you have fun. Just means you will max out your character in 3 months instead of one. And you won't be on top of the PvP ladder. WoW is nowhere near as demanding as some of the other MMORPGs out there.

@useless wrt Civ4

Yeah, applied the 1.52 patch, and the game runs great until you get to about 1700AD, then you click "end turn" and go make a cup of coffee. Considering the huge amount of people on the forums experiencing the exact same problem it's def a coding issue for Firaxis 2 sort out.

@SkrewbalL wrt DS2

You know, same thing happened too me, the game ran beautifully with my old card (Geforce 4 MX440), probably because it wasn't making use of all the Directx9 features, bought an FX5500 and got terrible FPS, bought the 6600GT and got terrible FPS, so go figure.

@Everyone :D

Ok, so can i pull a copy 0f WoW via P2P and then by a legit key from an online retailer somewhere ?

Also, what's the difference between PvP and PvE, i've seen these acronyms flying about ....

PvP is Player vs Player, aka killing other real people. Battlefield 2 for example is pure PvP.

PvE is Player vs Enemy, aka killing computer controlled monsters.

thanks gkm ....... lemme go through the WoW sub forum, see how i can get this game going :D

WoW is only casual till you hit lvl 60, thereafter there's not much that's casual if you have any intention on improving yer character. My 2 cents: if you value your RL at all, stay well clear of MMO's in general.

RL = Real Life. That funny thing people had before they started playing online games like GW, WoW or BF2. :)

lol, my gf and I shared one WoW account. I would play till like 3am on weekends, then she'd wake up at 5am and play till I woke up around lunch time.

*edit* does anyone know where I can get hold of Arcanum? I check it out and it looks sweet - I like the whole steampunk thing. Looked on take2, digital planet, and kalahari with no luck.
