My Samsung Syncmaster 930BF is not doing very well.......:o

I noticed that it takes longer and longer to switch on every time I start my PC.

It now borders on 15min to switch on.

The screen is older than 3 years, so I have no warrantee left.

I tried the screen on another PC, ...... same thing.

I also tried a different power cable and a different screen cable..... no change.

Any Ideas what could be the problem?
Is it even worth taking it somewhere to be fixed?

I googled the problem, and the closest I came to a decent answer was "The power board capacitors are faulty"

any ideas????????

It is generally better to repair than to replace for several reasons. Monitors, (or terminal displays), should have a life span of ten to fifteen years. LCD screens should last even longer. Failure of just one tiny component can render a monitor useless. Until the tube or main transformer fails, repair is the logical, cost-effective choice.

Hopefully your monitor just needs it's first major service, I know with older monitors it is usally bad solderings that have worn out over time or internal connecters that need to be adjusted/cleaned that cause your monitor to stop displaying, but hopefully it is something small that has packed up and can be replaced.

Sounds like a dry joint - normally fairly easy to fix with the right equipment. With the monitors heating up and cooling down all the time dry joints soon develop. Once the monitor becomes warmer with the dry joint things start to work.

A can of freeze spray should help isolate the problem. I would take it in for repair - at last let them give you a quote first. Don't open the thing up yourself if you don't know what you are doing - you are likely to fry yourself :)

I've got a 21" Cornerstone which died the other day. After a few hours of tinkering I found a faulty component. Certain monitors are worth repairing - I wouldnt replace this one with any LCD.

Ok.... since I posted this thread to now, the monitor does not even want to come on at all.

Can anyone recommend someone in the Cape area that can maybe have a look at it and try and fix it?

Hi

Had the exact problem.
Take it to CRT, they are the Samsung repair agents in Cape Town.
Took them less than a day to sort mine. Take it 1st thing in the morning then perhaps you'll get it before the day's end.

Give them a call on 021 555 4187.
