PC Sound to 5.1?

Ok I know very little when it comes to sound.

As you can see i've got the P7P55D from Asus, and have it connect it to my (old) Pioneer amp.
I've always just had it come from the front audio out then split into the red and white connections for the amp.
The system is 5.1 Home theater kinda thing with a 12" Sub (Pioneer Champion series for a car :D) and want to make sure i'm fully using the system. Back of the amp:

Can i go Spdif out of my pc to the 1) on the amp?? As in the picture or should i rather go to 2) the 5.1 ch input?
Which cables do i need and their rough prices ?

Easiest would be S/PDIF from PC to COAX 1 or COAX 2 on the amplifier. You'll need a 3.5mm to RCA cable, which will in all probability be less than R100.

Sound quality would be slightly better, since it's a digital signal from your PC to the amp. Much less wiring too :)

The specs mention 1 x Optical S/PDIF Output, but no mention of co-axial for digital. If that is the case, then you need an optical cable which will go into 1, labelled OPT. 1.8 Meter Optical Toslink Audio Cable. The specs also mention 1 x S/PDIF Out Header under internal connectors. Some makes include a backplate to connect to this.

Referred to the user manual and there are definitely co-axial inputs, as well as a single optical input (p. 13). First pic in the OP, on the left, block states "digital in".

And the motherboard has optical only.
 
Just an update. I bought the 1.8 Meter Optical Toslink Audio Cable, and it works perfect! You can hear the difference, it's just so much better.
