I am looking for a reasonably priced set of speakers for my PC. a 2.1 set would do, the set with a sub of whatever it's called, and decent sound quality of course.

The other feature that I would very much like on it, is like a seperate volume control thing, where I can also plug in my headset, and maybe a mic, but I'm not too bothered about that.

I don't really want to spend more than R500. Should put it off and spend more on something better when I have more spare cash ?

I am also thinking I should also buy an entry level Asus or creative soundcard which I remember reading is considerably better than on board sound cards ?

Anything you guys can recommend ?

Looks like that set is discontinued, but it did bring me to the Z313 also by logitech, which looks to be what I am after more or less ?

The Z313 is the replacement yes -
I cannot comment on their sound quality - but in my recent experience with Logitech their direct noted "replacements / updated version"
do sound the same..
Also a side note - mine have lasted that long - and I play music EVERY night when I get home, for hours on end no hassles..
The subwoofer is of decent quality

The Z323 features something called 360-degree sound:

The speakers project sound evenly in all directions, so you enjoy rich, clear sound from any angle throughout the room.A 360-degree explanation of why you’re going to love 360-degree sound.

Also the speaker system is 5 watts more powerful than the Z313.

Higher wattage, larger, down-firing sub woofer. For R100 more.

Z323 are similar to the EOL Z4's with their down-firing sub. Smokes the X210/X230's.

Fair enough.

I'm thinking I will be getting an asus xonar dg with it. How do the asus soundcards stack up against the creative ones ?

You won't know the difference on a (sorry) substandard system like a 2.1
Logitech
On a decent set of studio speakers, and .wav / 320kbps MP3 you might.
All that said - true audiophiles don't work with PC :D

The main reason I want all this is because when I use my headset on my MP3 player or cellphone it sounds fine, but when I use them on my PC it sounds ****. Like there is no bass. So I reckon that must have something to do with my mediocre onboard soundcard ? Oh and for some reason it doesn't go very loud. It's a sennheiser HD 439 headset.

I use my headset 90% of the time, but every now and then I want speakers.

Then I suggest you spend more on a sound card than a 2.1 set of speakers. I recommend you try to get a PCI-E sound card as opposed to a normal PCI one since PCI has been phased out on the new motherboards. Otherwise a decent PCI one should do of course.

You can also try installing this Audio Enhancer as well to improve PC audio fidelity without having to go to the expense of an additional sound card - there is a NOTICEABLE improvement - even with the Free Trial version having a 50% enhancement limit on the slider controls.

Just be advised of this caveat if you are running an EARLIER version of DFX and Internet Explorer 9, and you find IE9 hangs or stops responding:

Nomnom my mobo is a MSI p55a-gd65.

I installed that audio enhancer Ivan Leon, and I definitely notice a difference, but still when there is some bass it still sounds flat as hell, and when I plug that same headset into my ****ty little creative MP3 player even there the bass sounds considerably deeper.

Don't know how to describe it better.

Ok your motherboard has both PCI and PCI-E x1 slots so you can get any sound card you can afford, forever I still recommend you try to get a PCI-E x1 sound card as opposed to a PCI sound card.

Ordered the ASUS - Xonar DX XD and got it an hour ago. Payment method was COD.

second time I bought from TakeAlot and thoroughly impressed with their service.
