Hey guys

I started a thread a while ago regarding a new gpu.

I bought the Gigabyte hd 7770.

Uninstalled my drivers, took out the old card and inserted the new one; now when I boot up my PC everything is fine until I reach Starting Windows. It won't go past that point.

I can boot up fine in Safe Mode and when I restart my PC with the old card it is also working fine.

Can anybody help please?

What did you have prior to the new one? I know you can have trouble moving from Nvidia to AMD.

Maybe try to use the onboard and uninstall the old drivers. Then pop in the new one.

I have a 450 watt supply. The company I bought it from assured me it would be fine, and from googling around others also run this with 450 watt power supplies. I unplugged the power from the GPU but left it inside, trying to run through my on board, but it still won't boot all the way.

Does your 450W have a 6-pin GPU power supply or are you using a molex lead with an adapter to get the compatible interface? If you are using an adapter, try to use a cable from the PSU that is not used to power anything else.

No, I am using an interface to get the 6 pin.

Sorry not 100% sure about your post, so I shall give my interpretations.

I don't seem to have a 6 pin connector straight from my PSU.

I am using 2 cables from my PSU that isn't in use as the interface has to ports for connections from my PSU which links to the 6-pin.

That should work. If you use two different outlets from the PSU and use one molex from each of them to connect to the 6-pin adapter, while not using either of those two outlets to power anything else, then that's about all you can do as far as power is concerned.

Then boot with the old card and use driver sweeper http://goo.gl/r3dmL and see if that helps. If not, try the 7770 in another PC if possible.

Boot into safe mode, remove old drivers.

I will try the driver sweeper.

@Sinbad I am now booting through the onboard GPU - going to try driver sweeper to clean everything.

Thank you for the replies, guys, much appreciated.

It worked! I used driver sweeper and from there it booted; I installed the driver and everything works.

Thank you for the help!
