I need some help
I am looking for a cheap but powerful PC to rival with the ps4
please suggest some parts
thanks

tough one. Rival in terms of price or in terms of price and performance? what is your definition of cheap?

YOu will find plenty of suggested builds on the wrt PS4 specs.

MSI z87 G43 motherboard R1700
Intel i5 4670k CPU R2400
MSI 270x 2GB GPU R2900
Gskill 8GB RAM R1000
500 GB HDD R700
Coolermaster Chassis and 550w psu R1100

Prices for landmark/wootware.

Total R9800 and its probably more than twice as powerful than the "next gen" consoles. You could probably go for a CPU/Mobo cheaper and upgrade to a 280x, SSD or use the savings for keyboard and mouse.

More than twice as powerful? That's unlikely. The PS4 is based on a 7850 whereas the 270x is basically a gussied up 7870XT. If you take into account the efficiencies gained from having a dedicated architecture I think you'll need to plump out quite a bit more to get better gaming performance.

To add to that, the PS4 has a 8-core CPU. Not a dual core i5.

From what I read the ps4 is a custom AMD APU 8 core with Southern Island Radeon graphics.

The xbox is similar. Bear in APU and not CPU.

Yea that doesn't mean much though. I think in terms of raw benchmarks the 4670k would be quite a bit faster - maybe not 2x but at least 30-40%. But when it gets to what matters - the games - the consoles will have an edge for a while. I mean.. did you see Killzone: SF? Lousy game but the graphics are crazy.

Saw this yesterday....wowee, does it look good. Haven't played much of it, so cannot say the game is bad.

Originally I had a 280x in the list but the price was a bit more than 10k. Thats where twice as powerful comes from.

The efficiencies of consoles are less of an advantage now as they were previously.

Sure, its not a 8 core CPU but its not a dual core either... a 4670k is quad core and will run circles around the PS4 proc.

Don't agree with this at all. You cannot build a PC that is as powerfull as the PS4, for the same price. If you could, then why would Sony not have used more powerfull components. You need to upscale the parts, as a computer is not a dedicated gaming device.

Why do you say the efficiencies are less of an advantage?

I would like to see some cross platform benchmarks but he's not inaccurate I think.
