PC to XBOX quite tough

I've been a long time PC gamer, generally prefering sci-fi/war type FPS (FarCry, HL2, Q4, MoH, CoD etc.) and a bit of RTS (Homeworld, Company of Heroes). After reading all the superlative reviews of GoW and not relishing forking out ~10K to upgrade my PC to top-of-the range, I finally took the plunge and got a X360 Prem + GoW.

I'm finding it tough to adjust to the imprecise controller of the x360 (as used in GoW) after years of being used to the pin-point accuracy of mouse aiming and the instinctive ability to dodge and strafe with keyboard movement controls. I've only been at it a few days, but was wondering if anyone else had to go through a bit of a frustrating re-adjustment, or am I just to much of a toppie?

Suppose I'll just have to keep persevering.

I had a few teething problems but after adjusting various setting, esp the sensitivity, it's much easier to use now.

I especially noticed it when I was playing COD3 - part of a series I had previously played exclusively on the PC.
 
I guess you'll get used to it, console gamers typically have to go through the same adjustment when switching to PC games. Racing games for example play far better for me on the XBox than the PC.
 
Certian games are just better on Consoles (ps2,ps3 and xbox 360's)

Stuff like mortal kombat (fighting games) , specially multiplayer.. On a keyboard the keys scroll lock if you fight against your buddy.

Racing games are nice, cuase 1st of all u play it on the gamepad and u get to play it on the Bigger han pcscreen . Your TV :>>
*u could buy a rumble pad for your pc, but then u must play on your 17" or 19" computer monitor*

Then thirdperson games are also nice on playstation2/3 or Xbox360. Stuff like Tomb raider.


PS. Roman4604 . I do believe you get a Keyboard and mouse combo for the Xbox360. Someone even told me that a normal USB PC keyboard works on it. But i cannot confirm that. If u have a USB keyboard give it a try.

dont worry,after a while youll get used to it.

i was lucky,i played golden eye on my n64 ages ago so i got some knowledge of controllers and Fps's
 
I also struggled as I used to be a major quake player and for the first while I couldn't play a FPS on a console. You do get used to it though and as Bwana says you can change the settings to get it better. I don't think it will ever compare to a keyboard and mouse though...

But like you say it is a lot cheaper than upgrading a PC constantly and once you are used to it just as much fun.

After Vista is released we will finally be able to play console vs PC in a FPS. I can't wait to see who wins that one. Some of these guys are brilliant on a console. I just do it for fun and end up watching my team mates play more often than not.. :D
 
Thanks guys ... will keep plugging at it. My saving grace is the kids aren't faring too much better ATM (PS2 pros). Those Locusts are tough b@strads, cant imaging what Insane difficulty must be like?

Why did You make the switch from the precise awesome controls of a PC to a controller?, its like going from conventional sex to gay sex and wondering why it hurts so bad.

LOL that's quite an analogy but I would say that some games are better suited to PC (FPS, certain RPG's etc) and some better suited to consoles (arcade, racing, third person action, etc.). But with enough practice one can easily adjust to playing on either platform.

It's all about the games. Many top rated games (that I like) are either xbox360 exclusive or 1st e.g.

Gears of War
Call of Duty 3
Halo 2/3

Obviously it swings both ways ... not sure when/if Crysis will be released on 360 or if it will come close to the PC version (running on 8800GTX SLI).

Also although some games are avaliable on PC & console, they require serious PC hw e.g. Oblivion ... much cheaper on console hw.

Dude that's just wrong :$

It's more like going from missionary position to doing it standing up. At first it seems like too much effort but once you get going you wonder why you ever bothered doing it the other way . . .
