Did a fresh install of windows and when I restarted it refused to boot.(no signal to monitor). Tried everything, cleared cmos, swapped ram etc.
Took it to a friend. Swapped out gfx card and the gfx card worked in his pc. Plugged his power supply into my pc but still no luck. Tested my ram and its working. Only thing it can be is motherboard or cpu. I did install a aftermarket cooler the day before it stopped booting. I could not test the motherboard or cpu as my friend had 1st gen i7 and I got second gen i5. Bought pc second hand so no warranty. This is my hardware:

Asus P8P67-m
i5 2500k
HD 6870
Crappy 550w PSU
Corsair ram 2*2gb

Can someone recommend someone that can test motherboard and cpu in stellenbosch/cape town/strand area please. Im depressed without my pc.

75% Chance it's your Motherboard.
20% Chance it's your PSU.
5% Chance it's your CPU (Intel CPU's are bulletproof)

I'm in CPT, but still running my trusty old C2D E8400.

Sorry.

Edit: You've already ruled out PSU.

95% Chance it's your Motherboard.
5% Chance it's your CPU

You can safely assume it's your Mobo. :(

Edit2: Have you tried disconnecting your HDD's, Optical Drives and USB Devices?

It might be one of them causing you trouble.

Remove the GPU and try to boot from the onboard display, It can also be that your PSU doesn't give enough amps to your GPU, that will rule out if its your GPU slot as well.

Remove the Ram as well, if it beeps(check that your Speaker is pluged in) that can also mean that your motherboard isn't compatable with your RAM, however that shouldn't be the case.

Your motherboard should still be under warrenty from Asus, try and check using your seriel number. You can also try a Good PC shop to just check it for you.

1. I'm guessing the P8P67 isn't equipped with onboard VGA.
2. The Ram has already been tested and confirmed working.
3. Without the original purchase invoice, Asus won't honor any warranty.

Remove RAM, boot, wait for PC to attempt POST (and beep at you), then switch off, replace RAM & it will probably work.

Hi guys thanks for feedback. Removed ram and it gives beep tones, when I put it back there is no beep at all, not even the 1 beep motherboards usually give and no signal to display. Doubt its the ram because the ram error light stays off. And I tested ram and it was working.

I have disconnected everything and built up a basic system but still no luck.

Unfortunatly the P8P67 has no onboard vga. Really hope its the mobo and not cpu. (less expensive)

How do I check with asus for warranty with serial number?

Remove the GPU and then boot up, see if you get the one beep POST indicating that all is good.

Nope. Dont even get that. Must be motherboard. Phoned asus and they said I can bring it to them. They just check the serial number to see if its under warranty. Im 100% sure its still under warranty because its sandy bridge.

i had a similar problem with my p5q mb. turned out it was the psu although initially we did try another psu and it would still not boot. the trick was to clear the bios first before trying the new psu and that's what sorted me out. I went to the extent of sending back the mb to supplier and it booted on there bench:o

Well, It's worth noting that that there were beep tones when you removed the Ram, which indicates the board is not completely Dead. It's also a fact that you wouldn't get any beep codes if your CPU was faulty, so the good news is your CPU is fine. :)

Thanks totem. I get sick when i think of having to buy a new 2500k. Ill get the motherboard tested for the final verdict ASAP. Can you guys recommend a replacement board that can also crossfire in the future?

So it turned out to be the motherboard like most of you said. Want to give a big shout out to ASUS ZA in joburg. They replaced my board without purchase invoice (checked the serial on the system for warranty). Now im back in action. THANKS ASUS!!!
